Photonic design & simulation

Understand your design before the next build.

Turn a photonic concept into a design you can inspect, simulate and compare. We help teams connect geometry, material assumptions and solver results to the engineering decision they need to make.

When to bring us in

Questions worth
answering early.

Scope of work

What we can work on together.

01

Define the design context

Set up the wavelength range, material properties, layer stack and process constraints. Separate supplied design rules from provisional assumptions so the model has a clear basis.

02

Develop and compare layouts

Explore waveguides, couplers, ring structures, interferometers and spectrometer layouts as the task requires. Compare geometry and routing choices against the optical goal and physical constraints.

03

Connect optical and thermal analysis

Choose mode, circuit, field or thermal analysis to answer the question at hand. Compare useful alternatives, investigate discrepancies and record which solver and inputs produced each result.

Example scope

Compare two waveguide or coupler geometries under the same stack and wavelength assumptions, then document which differences matter for the next design iteration.

What you receive

Work your team
can take forward.

We agree the deliverables and working formats when defining the scope.

  • Design and layout files in the agreed working format, with stack definitions and key parameters.
  • Simulation outputs and a comparison of selected alternatives, including model settings and assumptions.
  • A technical review identifying design trade-offs, unresolved questions and recommended next checks.

Getting started

Bring the question.
And what you know.

Start with the inputs you have. We can identify gaps together.

  • Target function, wavelength range and performance criteria.
  • Available layouts, layer stacks, material data and process or foundry rules.
  • Packaging, thermal, footprint and tool or export requirements.

Using the results

A model with a clear basis for decisions.

We agree the analysis method and level of detail with you. The handover distinguishes calculated results from measurements and identifies assumptions that still need checking. Fabrication readiness depends on the applicable process rules and a separate review with your manufacturing partner.

Discuss your requirements
