The proposed signal path

Visible or infrared light interacts with a sample. The resulting optical response is detected and compared with a reference. Interpretation then seeks to connect changes in the spectrum with chemical information.

  1. 01

    Illuminate

    Introduce light under controlled conditions.

  2. 02

    Interact

Observe how the sample changes the optical response.

  3. 03

    Detect

Capture a signal suitable for reference comparison.

  4. 04

    Interpret

Evaluate spectral information within a calibration model.

Photonics and signal interpretation

Our proposed architecture adds a reprogrammable analog neuromorphic processor, software support and connectivity. These are architectural directions, not yet an integrated system.

What integration needs to resolve

Calibration

Define the reference, operating conditions and sensitivity to variations in the sample.

Optical coupling

Characterize the path between the light source, sample and detector in a physical setup.

System constraints

Establish power, packaging, stability and signal-processing requirements through experiments.

Where AIFIELD contributes

For this sensing direction we designed a photonic glucose chip in AIFIELD. The AIFIELD pages explain how it was designed; the ArtiSense validation pages explain what measurement still has to show. A simulated design is one input to that work.
